What to expect from a mechanical reasoning test at the Goldman Sachs Group

What we know about the tests, which format this one can take and how to practise for it.

Does the Goldman Sachs Group use mechanical reasoning tests?

We do not have a list of the tests the Goldman Sachs Group sets. A mechanical test goes with technical work. Employers set it for apprentices, technicians and engineers, so expect one only if the role is of that kind.

What the Goldman Sachs Group hiring process does have is a stage of online tests: it is stage 2 of 5. The email that invites you to it names each test, so read it before you choose what to practise. All five stages are on our page about the Goldman Sachs Group.

Which mechanical test format will the Goldman Sachs Group use?

We do not know which mechanical test the Goldman Sachs Group sets. The list has five that employers use, and what separates them is length: from 15 questions to 60.

How do you practise for a mechanical test at the Goldman Sachs Group?

Most pictures come in pairs that differ in one thing: a longer lever, a larger gear, one more bulb. Spot what differs before you read the answers. When you get one wrong, work out which principle it was about, because there are only a handful.

Start with Mechanical Reasoning Test 1: it is free and needs no account. Then take the mechanical tests in the package with the timer on. Aim to answer a simple picture in a few seconds, so there is time left for the ones with several parts.

Goldman Sachs process is mostly interviews now but the numerical kept me sharp for the case questions. Good quality. Four stars because the tests are good, just be aware GS do not test everyone the same way.
