About Linklaters

Linklaters is a global law firm headquartered in London and a member of the Magic Circle of leading London law firms. It advises companies, banks, investment funds and governments on corporate deals, finance, capital markets, restructuring, disputes, antitrust and tax, with 29 offices in 20 countries.

The firm dates back to 1838, when John Linklater became a partner of the solicitor Julius Dods in London. A merger with Paines, Blyth & Huxtable in 1920 created Linklaters & Paines, and a series of European mergers from 1998 onwards built its international network. Linklaters has about 6,000 people, including 550 partners, and recruits trainee solicitors in London through its vacation schemes and a two-year training contract.

  • Dan Morgan, Bristol

    Revolut

Revolut ops role had a logical test. Did the inductive and diagrammatic ones here for a week. Passed first go. Decent price too.

  • Chiara

Good. Sometimes the explanation is a bit short for the harder questions but you can usually work it out from the steps given.

  • William Hartley

    DB numerical

Deutsche Bank numerical test passed. The practice tests here are a close match in difficulty and the timer got me used to the pace. Reports after each test are detailed.

  • Sana

Best numerical practice ive found and I tried 3 sites. The solutions show the quickest method not just the correct one.

  • Felix Baumann, Berlin

    BMW

Good preparation for the BMW online assessment, the numerical and inductive parts in particular. The real one had an English language section which obviously this doesn't cover. Still good.

  • Ravi Chandran, Coventry

Philips graduate programme. Inductive reasoning section is what I came for. Six inductive and six diagrammatic tests here, did each twice. Real test was the same flavour of pattern questions. Through to the next round.

What to expect from the Linklaters assessment

How the company hires, which tests to expect, how they are scored and how to prepare for them.

How does Linklaters hire?

Linklaters hires in five stages, and the online tests are the second, straight after your application. Three more stages follow for the people who get through.

The tests are the one stage with nobody on the other side: a score decides who goes through. They are also the one stage you can rehearse beforehand, which is what the rest of this page is for.

What happens at each stage, the interviews and the assessment centre included, is on our page about the Linklaters recruitment process.

Which tests does Linklaters use?

Expect a numerical and a verbal reasoning test: they are the pair most large employers set. Many add a logical test, a situational judgement test or a personality questionnaire, and technical roles often bring a mechanical test.

We do not know the exact set Linklaters will send you: it changes with the role you applied for, and from one intake to the next. Your invitation email names each test and its publisher, so read it before you start practising. Our six packages cover every one of these kinds, and our page about Linklaters psychometric tests goes through each, the personality questionnaire included.

How are Linklaters tests scored?

Your raw score is turned into a percentile: your place among everyone who has taken that test. A percentile of 80 means you did better than 80 in every 100 candidates in the comparison group. Employers rarely publish the percentile they cut at, and we do not know the one Linklaters uses.

Because the scale is relative, a couple more right answers near the middle of the group move you a long way up it. Our report gives you a percentile after every practice test, so you can watch yours climb.

How do you prepare for Linklaters tests?

Take as many practice tests as you can, and change the settings as you go. Start with the solutions showing, so every question you miss is explained on the spot.

Then switch the timer on, take away the option to skip, and add negative marking, so a wrong guess costs you a mark. After a few tests like that, the real Linklaters test is one more run of something you have already done.
