About Sky

Sky Group Limited is a British media conglomerate with operations in Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Spain in addition to the UK. Since October 2018 it has been part of the US corporation Comcast. Its core business is satellite television. It was formed in 1990 by the merger of British Sky Television and British Satellite Broadcasting under the name BSkyB. In 2014, the name was changed to Sky plc after expansion into Italy and Germany. As of 2018, the company had 23.6 million subscribers and is the largest satellite TV operator in the UK and Italy, third in Germany. The company owns a number of satellite TV channels, such as Sky News, Sky Sports, Sky Movies, Sky1, and Sky2.

Activities

Sky has a presence in four of the five largest pay-TV markets in Western Europe: the UK, Italy, Germany and Spain. Pay-TV is the company's core business and is distributed both via satellite and cable networks, predominantly by third parties, although the UK has its own. In Spain and Switzerland, services are only available via the internet. Several channels (Sky News in the UK and Ireland, Sky TG24 in Italy and Sky Sport News in Germany) are broadcast free-to-air.

The divisions are formed on a geographical basis:

  • UK & Ireland - 170 channels, 13 million subscribers, £8.9bn turnover;
  • Germany and Austria - 44 channels, 5.2 million subscribers, £2bn turnover;
  • Italy - 84 channels, 4.8 million subscribers, turnover of £2.6bn.

In the UK, the company has a virtual cellular operator, Sky Mobile, operating through the Telefónica network.

Profile figures as last updated in August 2022. The company's own reports have the current ones.

  • Dan Morgan, Bristol

    Revolut

    Revolut ops role had a logical test. Did the inductive and diagrammatic ones here for a week. Passed first go. Decent price too.

  • Chiara

    Good. Sometimes the explanation is a bit short for the harder questions but you can usually work it out from the steps given.

  • William Hartley

    DB numerical

    Deutsche Bank numerical test passed. The practice tests here are a close match in difficulty and the timer got me used to the pace. Reports after each test are detailed.

  • Sana

    Best numerical practice ive found and I tried 3 sites. The solutions show the quickest method not just the correct one.

  • Felix Baumann, Berlin

    BMW

    Good preparation for the BMW online assessment, the numerical and inductive parts in particular. The real one had an English language section which obviously this doesn't cover. Still good.

  • Ravi Chandran, Coventry

    Philips graduate programme. Inductive reasoning section is what I came for. Six inductive and six diagrammatic tests here, did each twice. Real test was the same flavour of pattern questions. Through to the next round.

What to expect from the Sky assessment

How the company hires, which tests to expect, how they are scored and how to prepare for them.

How does Sky hire?

Sky hires in five stages, and the online tests are the second, straight after your application. Three more stages follow for the people who get through.

The tests are the one stage with nobody on the other side: a score decides who goes through. They are also the one stage you can rehearse beforehand, which is what the rest of this page is for.

What happens at each stage, the interviews and the assessment centre included, is on our page about the Sky recruitment process.

Which tests does Sky use?

Expect a numerical and a verbal reasoning test: they are the pair most large employers set. Many add a logical test, a situational judgement test or a personality questionnaire, and technical roles often bring a mechanical test.

We do not know the exact set Sky will send you: it changes with the role you applied for, and from one intake to the next. Your invitation email names each test and its publisher, so read it before you start practising. Our six packages cover every one of these kinds, and our page about Sky psychometric tests goes through each, the personality questionnaire included.

How are Sky tests scored?

Your raw score is turned into a percentile: your place among everyone who has taken that test. A percentile of 80 means you did better than 80 in every 100 candidates in the comparison group. Employers rarely publish the percentile they cut at, and we do not know the one Sky uses.

Because the scale is relative, a couple more right answers near the middle of the group move you a long way up it. Our report gives you a percentile after every practice test, so you can watch yours climb.

How do you prepare for Sky tests?

Take as many practice tests as you can, and change the settings as you go. Start with the solutions showing, so every question you miss is explained on the spot.

Then switch the timer on, take away the option to skip, and add negative marking, so a wrong guess costs you a mark. After a few tests like that, the real Sky test is one more run of something you have already done.
