Shell (Royal Dutch Shell) is a British-Dutch oil and gas company. As of 2018, the largest oil and gas company and the 11th largest publicly traded company in the world, according to Forbes Global 2000 (including the 3rd largest by revenue, 21st by net income, 83rd by assets and 15th by market capitalisation); fifth in the Fortune Global 500.   • Natural gas (Integrated Gas) - production of natural gas, its transportation, conversion into liquefied gas, production of liquid fuels, maintenance of infrastructure to deliver gas to consumers; also this division includes such non-core activities as electricity production (wind turbines with a total capacity of 1.2 GW), biofuels (pilot plant in India) and hydrogen fuel (projects in Germany, UK and California), trading of carbon dioxide emission rights;
  • Oil production (Upstream) - oil production, including shale oil and deepwater production; the most important countries include Brazil, USA, Oman, Nigeria, UK, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Russia, Norway, Denmark, Canada, Gabon, Italy; production level was 2.24 million barrels per day, revenues in 2021 were $9.2 billion.
  • Oil Products Sales (Oil Products) - processing and sale of oil products (gasoline, paraffin, diesel, lubricants) as well as biofuels and sulphur; Shell has stakes in 10 refineries, which together produce 1.6 million barrels per day; the largest of them are in Singapore, Germany, the Netherlands, USA, Canada, Argentina, South Africa; 46,000 petrol stations in 70 countries operate under the Shell brand, with more than 32 million daily customers; revenues in 2021 were $182.9 billion and petroleum product sales of 4.46 million barrels per day (from 97.4 million worldwide).
  • Petrochemicals - refining oil and gas into chemicals (ethylene, propylene, aromatics, styrene, alcohols); petrochemical facilities in the US, Canada, Singapore, China, Germany, the UK and the Netherlands; revenues in 2021 of $17.0bn, 14.2m tonnes of products

Royal Dutch Shell recruitment process in 2024

  1. Online application form
    • One of the first stages of the recruitment process is filling in the application form on Royal Dutch Shell Careers website.

    • The online application form is usually presented as a questionnaire with the option of importing data from a LinkedIn or CV file.

    • The applicant is required to provide information about work experience, education, skills and other necessary details.

    • There may be questions both about job preferences (e.g. desired type of employment, country and city of residence) and more personal questions (e.g. race and ethnicity, religion, disability)

  2. Phone / Video Interview
    • Successful candidates are invited for a 15-20 min. phone call.

    • Soft skills are usually assessed during this call by the Royal Dutch Shell recruiter.

    • In some cases, Royal Dutch Shell hiring manager may invite you for a video interview (most commonly conducted with HireVue.) For software engineering positions, candidates may be asked to complete a coding challenge (problems on algorithms + take-home challenges.)

  3. Online tests

  5. Partner interview
    • The final stage of the recruitment process.

    • The candidate will have a chance to meet the hiring manager, department director and/or division lead.

    • Normally, there is no assessment at this stage.

    • Candidates are mostly expected to demonstrate soft skills and a desire to join Royal Dutch Shell.
