What to expect from an inductive reasoning test at Rolls-Royce

What we know about the tests, which format this one can take and how to practise for it.

Does Rolls-Royce use inductive reasoning tests?

We do not have a list of the tests Rolls-Royce sets. An inductive test is an abstract test of shapes, and some employers set one beside the numerical and verbal tests. Your invitation may call it abstract or logical reasoning: publishers use all three names.

What the Rolls-Royce hiring process does have is a stage of online tests: it is stage 2 of 4. The email that invites you to it names each test, so read it before you choose what to practise. All four stages are on our page about Rolls-Royce.

Which inductive test format will Rolls-Royce use?

We do not know which inductive test Rolls-Royce uses. The list shows how differently they ask: SHL has one test where you choose an answer and one where you build it on screen, and Aon has you sort figures into two sets.

Ours ask you to complete a row of figures or to find the one that does not belong, in short sets.

  • SHL Verify Inductive

    Questions
    18 questions
    Time
    24 min

Multiple choice: work out the pattern in a set of images and choose the next one. It adapts to your answers.

  • SHL Verify Interactive

    Questions
    15 questions
    Time
    18 min

Shapes and sequences of letters and numbers that you complete on screen, on a phone if you like.

  • Aon scales cls

    Questions
    12 questions
    Time
    12 min

Two sets of figures. Find the rule of each set, then sort four more figures. Aon's tests were cut-e's.

  • Talent Q Elements

    Questions
    12 questions
    Time
    About 15 min

Rules in arrangements of shapes and symbols, with a time limit on each question.

These are the usual formats: an adaptive test may stop before its last question. Your invitation states the time allowed. SHL, Aon and Talent Q are trademarks of their owners, who are not connected with this site.

How do you practise for an inductive test at Rolls-Royce?

Count, then look at position, then direction, then shading: one thing at a time. When you think you have the rule, test it against each figure you were given. If one of them does not fit, there is a second rule at work.

Start with Inductive Reasoning Test 1: it is free and needs no account. Then take the inductive tests in the package with the timer on. Write down the rules you missed: the same ones return in other rows.

  • Dan Morgan, Bristol

    Revolut

Revolut ops role had a logical test. Did the inductive and diagrammatic ones here for a week. Passed first go. Decent price too.

  • Chiara

Good. Sometimes the explanation is a bit short for the harder questions but you can usually work it out from the steps given.

  • William Hartley

    DB numerical

Deutsche Bank numerical test passed. The practice tests here are a close match in difficulty and the timer got me used to the pace. Reports after each test are detailed.

  • Sana

Best numerical practice ive found and I tried 3 sites. The solutions show the quickest method not just the correct one.

  • Felix Baumann, Berlin

    BMW

Good preparation for the BMW online assessment, the numerical and inductive parts in particular. The real one had an English language section which obviously this doesn't cover. Still good.

  • Ravi Chandran, Coventry

Philips graduate programme. Inductive reasoning section is what I came for. Six inductive and six diagrammatic tests here, did each twice. Real test was the same flavour of pattern questions. Through to the next round.
