What to expect from a diagrammatic reasoning test at Rolls-Royce

What we know about the tests, which format this one can take and how to practise for it.

Does Rolls-Royce use diagrammatic reasoning tests?

We do not have a list of the tests Rolls-Royce sets. A diagrammatic test is an abstract test, a close relative of the logical and inductive ones, and some employers set one beside the numerical and verbal tests.

What the Rolls-Royce hiring process does have is a stage of online tests: it is stage 2 of 4. The email that invites you to it names each test, so read it before you choose what to practise. All four stages are on our page about Rolls-Royce.

Which diagrammatic test format will Rolls-Royce use?

Only one publisher in the list, Saville, calls its test diagrammatic. SHL and Cubiks sell tests of the same kind under other names, and we do not know which one Rolls-Royce uses.

Ours show one figure changed into another and ask you to make the same change to a third. There are five answers to choose from.

  • Saville Swift Analysis

    Questions
    8 questions
    Time
    6 min

One of three six-minute sections: choose the diagram that completes a sequence.

  • Saville Diagrammatic Analysis

    Questions
    32 questions
    Time
    24 min

The long version, set when the diagrammatic test is taken on its own.

  • SHL Verify Inductive

    Questions
    18 questions
    Time
    24 min

SHL's test of this kind goes by another name: work out the pattern in a set of images and choose the next one.

  • Cubiks Logiks

    Questions
    10 questions
    Time
    4 min

Ten abstract questions, one of three parts of a 12-minute test. Talogy owns Cubiks now.

These are the usual formats. Your invitation states the exact number of questions and the time allowed. Saville, SHL and Cubiks are trademarks of their owners, who are not connected with this site.

How do you practise for a diagrammatic test at Rolls-Royce?

Say what happened to the first figure in plain words: turned a quarter, flipped, shaded, swapped. Apply the same thing to the third figure before you look at the answers. Where two changes happen together, use one to cross out answers and the other to choose.

Start with Diagrammatic Reasoning Test 1: it is free and needs no account. Then take the diagrammatic tests in the package, the short ones first. Turn the timer on once you can name the change in most questions.

  • Dan Morgan, Bristol

    Revolut

Revolut ops role had a logical test. Did the inductive and diagrammatic ones here for a week. Passed first go. Decent price too.

  • Chiara

Good. Sometimes the explanation is a bit short for the harder questions but you can usually work it out from the steps given.

  • William Hartley

    DB numerical

Deutsche Bank numerical test passed. The practice tests here are a close match in difficulty and the timer got me used to the pace. Reports after each test are detailed.

  • Sana

Best numerical practice ive found and I tried 3 sites. The solutions show the quickest method not just the correct one.

  • Felix Baumann, Berlin

    BMW

Good preparation for the BMW online assessment, the numerical and inductive parts in particular. The real one had an English language section which obviously this doesn't cover. Still good.

  • Ravi Chandran, Coventry

Philips graduate programme. Inductive reasoning section is what I came for. Six inductive and six diagrammatic tests here, did each twice. Real test was the same flavour of pattern questions. Through to the next round.
