What to expect from a situational judgement test at the Royal Air Force

What we know about the tests, which format this one can take and how to practise for it.

Does the Royal Air Force use situational judgement tests?

We do not have a list of the tests the Royal Air Force sets. Employers use situational judgement tests most for graduate schemes and for jobs with a lot of contact with customers or colleagues.

What the Royal Air Force hiring process does have is a stage of online tests: it is stage 2 of 5. The email that invites you to it names each test, so read it before you choose what to practise. All five stages are on our page about the Royal Air Force.

Which situational judgement test format will the Royal Air Force use?

Situational judgement tests are written for one employer at a time, around the behaviours it wants in the role. So we cannot list a standard format for the Royal Air Force. What differs from one test to the next is how you answer, and the list shows the four ways.

Ours are written out as text, with no video. The first two formats in the list come up most, and a few scenarios ask you to rate or rank every response.

Best response
Choose one
You pick the single most effective response out of four or five.
Best and worst
Choose two
You mark the most effective response and the least effective one.
Ranking
Order them all
You put every response in order. Cappfinity's Situational Strengths Test has you rank them from most to least likely.
Rating
Judge each one
You rate every response on its own. The Civil Service Judgement Test uses four steps, from counterproductive to effective.

Every employer's test is its own, so the number of scenarios and the time allowed are in your invitation. Cappfinity and the Civil Service are not connected with this site.

How do you practise for a situational judgement test at the Royal Air Force?

Read the job description and any values the Royal Air Force publishes before you practise. A test like this is written around the behaviours the employer wants, so they tell you what a good response looks like.

Start with Situational Judgement Test 1: it is free and needs no account. Then take the four tests in the package. Most real tests of this kind have no time limit, so you can switch the timer off. After each one, read the explanation of every scenario, the ones you got right included.

  • Dan Morgan, Bristol

    Revolut

Revolut ops role had a logical test. Did the inductive and diagrammatic ones here for a week. Passed first go. Decent price too.

  • Chiara

Good. Sometimes the explanation is a bit short for the harder questions but you can usually work it out from the steps given.

  • William Hartley

    DB numerical

Deutsche Bank numerical test passed. The practice tests here are a close match in difficulty and the timer got me used to the pace. Reports after each test are detailed.

  • Sana

Best numerical practice ive found and I tried 3 sites. The solutions show the quickest method not just the correct one.

  • Felix Baumann, Berlin

    BMW

Good preparation for the BMW online assessment, the numerical and inductive parts in particular. The real one had an English language section which obviously this doesn't cover. Still good.

  • Ravi Chandran, Coventry

Philips graduate programme. Inductive reasoning section is what I came for. Six inductive and six diagrammatic tests here, did each twice. Real test was the same flavour of pattern questions. Through to the next round.

No. A scenario tells you everything you need to answer it, and tests for graduate roles assume a first job. What helps is having seen how responses are compared, which is what practice gives you.
