The scheme had 65 docking stations when it opened.

Cycle hire scheme

The city's cycle hire scheme opened in 2021 with 40 docking stations and now has 65. Riders made 310,000 trips last year, 18% more than the year before. Most trips last under 20 minutes. The council says fares now cover the scheme's running costs.

Line managers approve most requests to work from home.

Working from home policy

From 1 March, staff may work from home on up to two days a week. Each request goes to the line manager, who must reply within five working days. Staff in their first three months are not eligible. The policy will be reviewed after one year.

Honey can ferment if its jar is left open.

Why honey keeps

Honey keeps for years because it holds very little water and is acidic, so most bacteria cannot grow in it. It is also hygroscopic: it draws moisture from the air. Honey in an open jar slowly takes on water, and its yeasts can then begin to ferment it.

What to expect from a verbal reasoning test at the NHS

What we know about the tests, which format this one can take and how to practise for it.

Does the NHS use verbal reasoning tests?

We do not have a list of the tests the NHS sets. A verbal test is one of the two that large employers set most often, and it usually comes in the same invitation as a numerical one.

What the NHS hiring process does have is a stage of online tests: it is stage 3 of 5. The email that invites you to it names each test, so read it before you choose what to practise. All five stages are on our page about the NHS.

For illustration only. We are not affiliated with the NHS, and our practice tests are not its own.

Which verbal test format will the NHS use?

We do not know which publisher the NHS uses, and for a verbal test it matters. Four of the six in the list ask you to mark a statement True, False or Cannot say. Talent Q asks multiple-choice questions, and Cubiks asks about words.

Ours are mostly of the first kind, with a few multiple-choice tests among them.

These are the usual formats, and employers can set their own time limits. Your invitation states the exact number of questions and the time allowed. SHL, Kenexa, Saville, Aon, Talent Q and Cubiks are trademarks of their owners, who are not connected with this site.

How do you practise for a verbal test at the NHS?

Start with the statement, then look for the sentence in the passage that decides it. Use only what the passage says: when it does not decide the statement either way, the answer is Cannot say.

Start with Verbal Reasoning Test 1: it is free and needs no account. Then work through the verbal tests in the package with the timer on, because pace is most of this test. For each statement you get wrong, read the explanation before you start the next test.

SJT pack for the NHS graduate scheme. The scenarios about colleagues and patients were in the same spirit as the real test. Got through the online stage, waiting for the assessment centre now. Thank you!

    NHS tests

Preparing for the NHS graduate management scheme and this was the only prep I did. Passed the online stage first time. The verbal tests were the most useful for me as english comprehension under time pressure is not my strong point.

    Good!

The NHS aptitude test practice platform provided by this website is excellent. It helped me to improve my test-taking skills and I was able to score well in the actual NHS test.

Questions about the NHS verbal tests

The full FAQ covers payments and your account. For anything else, write to support@aptitude-tests.co.uk.

In most verbal tests, yes: a wrong answer takes no marks off, so a statement left blank is the only certain loss. We do not know how the NHS has its test marked, so read the instructions on its first page.
