UBS Group AG is the largest Swiss financial holding company providing a wide range of financial services worldwide. The bank's place of incorporation and head office location is Zurich.
In addition to Private Banking, UBS provides private, corporate and institutional clients with wealth management, asset management and investment banking services with international services. UBS manages the largest amount of private capital in the world, accounting for approximately half of the world's billionaires among its clients.
UBS was founded in 1862 as the Bank of Winterthur with the arrival of the Swiss banking industry. During the 1890s, the Swiss Bank Corporation (SBC) was founded, forming a syndicate of private banks that expanded its activities, relying on Switzerland's international neutrality. After decades of market competition between SBC and UBS, they merged in 1998 to form a single company known exclusively as "UBS".
In 2011, the Financial Stability Board, established by the G20 countries, listed UBS as one of the world's 29 systemically important banks. Based on this decision, UBS is subject to a special control regime and has to meet stricter criteria for equity capital.
In 2014, the transformation of UBS AG into UBS Group AG Holding Company began, due to the need to comply with new Swiss banking regulations designed to increase the stability and resilience to crises of the banking system. The restructuring of UBS was completed in 2016.
